🇫🇷 Sobriété en France : histoire d'un malentendu | Yamina Saheb (Sciences Po, Paris)

France is the only country in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to incorporate sobriety into its legislation, to have several prospective scenarios based on sobriety, and where more and more players are trying to appropriate this concept. However, sobriety in France suffers from a misunderstanding, dating back to its introduction into public debate by the Negawatt association in the early 2000s. This presentation will go back to the origins of the concept, as found in political philosophy, and discuss how the various scientific disciplines working on sustainability have appropriated the concept of sobriety, in an attempt to identify the risks incurred as a result of this initial misunderstanding. The presentation will conclude with some thoughts on the benefits for democracies of bringing the concept of sobriety to life in its entirety.

2:45 pm | Round table

🇫🇷 Quelle recherche dans le futur ?Tomas Legon (Institut de la transition environnementale, Paris), Kévin Jean (Scientifiques en Rébellion, Paris), Odin Marc (Atecopol, Toulouse), Aude Lapprand (Sciences Citoyennes, Paris), Yamina Saheb (Sciences Po, Paris), Sophie Wahnich (CNRS, Grenoble)

Many of us agree that the current situation (point A) is neither sustainable nor necessarily desirable. Our collectives and our actions make sense in an attempt to transform this point A, but towards what point B? What kind of research should our industry's transition lead to? What would characterize this research of the future? What would scientific research that is both desirable and sustainable look like, a project that we would want to defend and that seems possible for the 21st century?
